Baruth/Mark, March 13, 2024 — The CLASSEN Group and the naturwind Group recently announced their collaboration on the planning of a new wind farm in the forest north of Mückendorf. The project aims to generate clean energy for regional industry and residents, thereby making an important contribution to the energy transition in Brandenburg.

The wind farm, which is to be developed in collaboration between the Classen Group and naturwind, represents a significant step toward an environmentally friendly energy supply. With up to 32 wind turbines, naturwind plans to use the electricity generated regionally to supply industry and residents in Baruth/Mark. All of the electricity generated will remain in the region to boost the local economy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

As a key industrial partner in the wind farm project, the Classen Group will primarily use the electricity generated to power its laminate and fiberboard plant in Baruth/Mark. The goal is to cover 65 to 75 percent of the plant’s electricity needs from renewable sources. In addition, CLASSEN plans to expand its photovoltaic systems to further increase renewable energy production. Already today, thanks to its own energy systems, the CLASSEN Group operates entirely without fossil fuels at its Baruth/Mark production site.

The project will also benefit from waste heat generated by the Classen Group’s production facilities, which will be used in the future to supply the neighboring towns of Baruth and Mückendorf with green heat. Through the installation of a large-scale heat pump—which will be powered by electricity from the wind farm—the waste heat will be raised to the required temperature and distributed via a local heating network.

The next steps include environmental assessments, parallel planning of the heating network, and negotiations on an urban development agreement to implement all aspects of the project in a timely manner. The CLASSEN Group and naturwind are committed to working with local authorities and stakeholders to establish a sustainable energy supply for the region.

The construction of the wind farm and the implementation of other infrastructure measures will take place in close coordination with local authorities and stakeholders.
