CLASSEN Group Launches DECLARE Label for Its Newly Developed CERAMIN Flex

Kaisersesch, November 28, 2024 — The CLASSEN Group has received the coveted Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label for CERAMIN®. This award recognizes CERAMIN as one of the most efficient solutions for the construction and renovation industry.
A standout feature of CERAMIN Flex is its “Red List Approved” classification under the “i-13 Red List” criteria of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). This means that the product contains no substances of concern that would need to be flagged on the Red List and that are known to pose serious risks to human health and the entire ecosystem. This is a significant advantage over PVC products, which, due to their ingredients, can only achieve the “Declared” classification.

“We could have also chosen the ‘Red List Free’ label, but that would have required full disclosure of all ingredients,” explains Sebastian Wendel, sustainability officer at the CLASSEN Group. “For reasons of trade secrets, we decided against it. With the ‘Red List Approved’ classification, up to 1% of the ingredients remain confidential, while still being subject to the ILFI’s strict Red List criteria. In our case, only 0.76% of the ingredients are kept confidential, as can be seen in the label’s detailed list.”

The decision to adopt the “Red List Approved” label underscores the CLASSEN Group’s commitment to meeting high standards of product transparency and performance without disclosing business-critical information.

CERAMIN Flex not only offers an alternative to conventional flooring but also meets the high standards of the commercial market in terms of quality and durability.

About the CLASSEN Group

As a leading German manufacturer of wall and floor coverings, CLASSEN stands for technological leadership and durable product solutions. Approximately 2,000 employees worldwide are committed to efficient processes, responsible use of materials, and continuous improvement throughout the entire value chain. With professional expertise and dedication, they promote resource-efficient processes, durable product concepts, and the return of suitable materials to the recycling loop. CLASSEN deliberately avoids the use of chlorine, PVC, and plasticizers in its wall and floor coverings.

With numerous patents available to the entire industry, the company underscores not only its own independence but also its commitment to continuous innovation. With CERAMIN®, CLASSEN has developed a material that consists largely of recycled plastic and is highly recyclable. In doing so, CLASSEN is making an exemplary contribution to the circular economy. Founded in 1962 by Dr. Hans-Jürgen Hannig, this family-owned company is currently managed by three generations, including the founder himself, who are involved in day-to-day operations.
