Baruth, October 10, 2023 – On September 30, 2023, the fire department in the Teltow-Fläming district conducted a successful emergency drill at the local industrial company Fiberboard GmbH, under the scenario “Major Hazard Materials Incident.” Fiberboard GmbH, which is part of CLASSEN and produces high-quality HDF/MDF for laminate flooring, together with its sister company CLASSEN GmbH, forms the world’s largest production site for laminate flooring, with an impressive capacity of over 80 million square meters. These conditions provided ideal training opportunities not only for the local fire department but also for the hazardous materials unit of the Teltow-Fläming district, as well as for emergency medical services and aid organizations, to train for and prepare for extraordinary hazardous situations.
The Fire and Disaster Protection Division of the Teltow-Fläming District Office planned and organized this important exercise in close coordination with Fiberboard GmbH, which made it possible to conduct a realistic training session for the emergency response teams. The exercise went smoothly and provided participants with valuable experience and insights to enable them to respond as effectively as possible in an actual emergency.

Both the district staff and the emergency responders from the fire department, emergency medical services, and aid organizations were extremely satisfied with the preparation and support, which enabled them to train effectively and safely. Fiberboard GmbH, together with the adjacent laminate production facility (CLASSEN GmbH), provided the perfect environment for this exercise.

“We learned a lot from this emergency drill and are grateful for the opportunity to practice in a realistic scenario. This training strengthens our capabilities and our confidence in our operational readiness,” commented Silvio Kahle, District Fire Chief of the Teltow-Fläming district.

The experiences and insights gathered by both the fire department and the organizers will be evaluated next week. This analysis will help further improve procedures and responses, thereby ensuring the safety of the population in the Teltow-Fläming district.

The “Major Hazard Materials” exercise underscores the importance of continuous training and preparation to ensure an appropriate response to potential hazardous situations. Fiberboard GmbH and the CLASSEN will continue to fulfill their responsibilities and remain fully committed to ensuring the safety of the community.
