Kaisersesch, September 1, 2025 – With a pilot project that is unique in Germany, the CLASSEN and HAWO GmbH are sending a strong signal in support of a circular economy in the flooring industry. CLASSEN already established successful take-back systems for production waste in collaboration with industry partners; together with HAWO GmbH, this approach is now being applied for the first time to returns from the trade sector. Since January 1, 2025, both partners have been testing a joint take-back concept for CLASSEN PVC-free CERAMIN. The pilot project will run until the end of the year and is intended to lay the foundation for further sustainable collaborations.

As part of the project, leftover tiles and surplus CERAMIN from contractors are collected through HAWO’s stores and CLASSEN to CLASSEN —and in the future, this will also include whole tiles that have already been installed. The materials are returned in plastic boxes provided by HAWO at its stores. Once filled, these boxes are transported to HAWO’s headquarters in Heppenheim, from where CLASSEN organizes CLASSEN to Kaisersesch for the products to be fully recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. The project will be closely monitored, evaluated, and improved throughout its duration. It is a testament to a trusting, long-standing partnership in which hawo is open to innovative approaches and CLASSEN collaborates with CLASSEN to further develop sustainable solutions in line with the circular economy.

“At CLASSEN , we CLASSEN firmly committed to advancing the circular economy in the flooring industry and establishing sustainable solutions throughout the entire product lifecycle. We are therefore all the more pleased to test such models in practice together with our customers in order to develop a future-proof and sustainable concept for the industry. This form of take-back is one of many possible options for CERAMIN material recycling of CERAMIN . A fundamental prerequisite for this is that CERAMIN  “Designed for Recycling” ,” says Sebastian Wendel, Sustainability Officer at the CLASSEN Group.

“As a family-owned business, we at hawo GmbH are convinced that sustainable solutions and a commitment to responsibility are crucial for the future of our industry. We have already successfully established take-back programs in other product categories and are now CERAMIN this experience, in collaboration with CLASSEN , to the CERAMIN product line CLASSEN .”

Outlook for the Project

The pilot project will run until December 31, 2025, and will be closely monitored and evaluated throughout its duration. If it proves successful, there are plans to expand it to include additional partners—with the aim of further embedding the circular economy in the construction industry.
