On October 14, 2024, the innovative material CERAMIN received the German Design Award in the "Winner" category CERAMIN its exceptional design quality and sustainable properties. The German Design Award sets standards for innovative design developments and honors products that impress with innovative approaches and functional design, thereby making a positive contribution to the sustainable transformation of the economy.
The German Design Award, presented by the German Design Council, is one of the most prestigious international design awards. Since its inception in 2012, the award has identified key design trends and promoted exceptional design achievements in the categories of product design, communication design, and architecture. For the 2025 edition, products and projects were submitted from 59 countries, with international submissions accounting for 48% of the total. The winners are selected by an international jury composed of leading experts from all design disciplines, distinguished by a clear focus on the needs of customers and markets. The German Design Award not only highlights outstanding design quality but also emphasizes the transformative power of design to drive sustainable economic transformation.

CERAMIN honored with the “Winner” award because the material impresses with its innovative properties and outstanding design. The PVC-free material consists largely of recycled material and combines an eco-friendly composition of 60% mineral filler and 40% polypropylene (PP). This combination makes CERAMIN only a sustainable alternative to conventional wall and floor coverings but also an extremely robust and durable product. Its exceptional dimensional stability and high resistance to moisture and abrasion were further factors that convinced the jury. 

In addition to the German Design Award, CERAMIN has received numerous other accolades CERAMIN recent years, including the Green Collection Award, the German Innovation Award, the Eifel Award, and the Interzum Award. Circularity for a Better Future

The Cradle to Cradle principle aims to design products so that they can be fully recycled without generating waste. CERAMIN from recycled and recyclable polypropylene (PP) and, at the end of its service life as a flooring material, can be reintroduced into the production cycle. Thanks to its material properties, it is suitable not only for reuse in new flooring but also for use in other products. This contributes to resource conservation and supports a sustainable circular economy.

A strong signal to the industry

With the Cradle to Cradle Material Health certification, the CLASSEN is sending a strong signal in support of sustainable innovation in the flooring industry. “This certification is another milestone for our company and demonstrates that sustainable business practices and high-quality product solutions can go hand in hand,” explains Sebastian Wendel, who is responsible for strategic business development at the CLASSEN.
