On October 14, 2024, the innovative material CERAMIN received the German Design Award in the “Winner” category for its exceptional design quality and forward-looking properties. The German Design Award sets standards for innovative design developments and honors products that impress with innovative approaches and functional design, thereby making a positive contribution to the sustainable transformation of the economy.
The German Design Award, presented by the German Design Council, is one of the most prestigious international design awards. Since its inception in 2012, the award has identified key design trends and promoted exceptional design achievements in the categories of product design, communication design, and architecture. For 2025, products and projects were submitted from 59 countries, with international submissions accounting for 48 percent of the total. Winners are selected by an international jury composed of leading experts from all design disciplines, distinguished by a clear focus on the needs of customers and markets. The German Design Award not only highlights outstanding design quality but also emphasizes the transformative power of design to reshape the economy.

CERAMIN was honored with the “Winner” award because the material impresses with its innovative properties and outstanding design. The PVC-free material consists largely of recycled material and combines a composition of 60% mineral filler and 40% polypropylene (PP). This combination makes CERAMIN not only an alternative to conventional wall and floor coverings but also an extremely robust and durable product. Its exceptional dimensional stability, as well as its high resistance to moisture and abrasion, were additional factors that convinced the jury.

In addition to the German Design Award, CERAMIN has received numerous other accolades in recent years, including the Green Collection Award, the German Innovation Award, the Eifel Award, and the Interzum Award. These honors attest to CERAMIN’s high level of innovation and the CLASSEN Group’s ongoing commitment to high-quality, forward-looking flooring solutions.

Circularity for a Better Future

The Cradle to Cradle principle aims to design products so that they can be fully recycled without generating waste. CERAMIN is made of recycled and recyclable polypropylene (PP) and, at the end of its useful life as flooring, can be reintroduced into the production cycle. Thanks to its material properties, it is suitable not only for reuse in new flooring but also for use in other products. This helps conserve resources and supports a sustainable circular economy.

A strong signal for the industry

With the Cradle to Cradle Material Health certification, the CLASSEN Group is sending a strong signal in support of sustainable innovation in the flooring industry. “This certification is another milestone for our company and demonstrates that sustainable business practices and high-quality product solutions can go hand in hand,” explains Sebastian Wendel, who is responsible for strategic business development at the CLASSEN Group.
